Project: In July of 2006 Celtic Energy completed an energy audit of the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) building, which had been fully renovated and expanded in 1994.

The State is currently implementing measures recommended by CEI, included: cutting-edge lighting technologies, and a brand new high-efficiency chiller plant, removing the building from the downtown chilled water loop.

The building would experience annual operational savings on the order of:

  • 43,152 kWh of electricity
  • 1,828 MMBtu of district hot water
  • 494,160 Ton-hrs of district chilled water
  • $342,300 reduction in utilities
  • Represents a 52% percent savings in current utility expenditures!

Celtic Energy also certified the DEP building as the first Energy Star Building owned by the State of Connecticut.
